The Otago Forum
Otago Forum-3 (2011): Service integration and coordination in a complex world
(the website for Otago Forum-3 will be available in September 2012)
Otago Forum-2 (2008): The service-dominant logic of marketing: From propositions to practice
Otago Forum (2005): Leading new business thinking
The Department, led by a small group of academics and supported by the School of Business’ Strategic New Initiatives Fund, has hosted three international colloquia known as the Otago Forum. In response to challenging economic times, a re-assessment of contemporary business logic and theory and industry practice is overdue. The Otago Forum has been established as a research community to contribute to this re-assessment by sharing research and contributing to theory development. It was first established in 2005 by the Department of Marketing to research and develop alternative business logics, especially the service-dominant logic for marketing and management, pioneered by U.S. Professors Steve Vargo and Bob Lusch in 2004 as an evolving work in progress. The Forum in 2008 focussed on achieving convergence between marketing theory and practice, while in December 2011 the third Otago Forum emphasised service integration and coordination in a complex world. Twenty leading academics are selected to attend the Otago Forum. These key thinkers are leaders in the evolving research community and have included present and past editors of the discipline’s leading journal, The Journal of Marketing. They also include marketing specialists, information scientists and accountants, and in 2011, five early career researches selected through a global competition.
