PhD Title
The Conservation and Development Implications of Kruger National Park's Commercialisation Process: Through a Neoliberal Lens
Supervisors
Dr Brent Lovelock and Prof. James Higham
Research Abstract
The overarching research aim is to analyse the implications of SANParks’ commercialisation strategy for the goal of integrated conservation, development and sustainable tourism following the modern conservation paradigm. In sum, the modern conservation paradigm advocates for the harmonisation of the socio-economic and ecological objectives of protected areas (Phillips 2003). Within this context, the study will seek to analyse the perceptions of KNP stakeholders towards the commercialisation strategy using an interpretive analytical framework.
