New Zealand's environment and agricultural industry is the backbone of our economy, and the NZ Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries takes any threats to our biosecurity very seriously. New Zealand has one of the strictest approaches to biosecurity in the world, which you will encounter on arrival into the country.

Not normally, but if you receive exceptional service you may wish pay a small gratuity.

Can I drive to Dunedin from Auckland, Christchurch or Queenstown?

Unless you are planning an extended stay in New Zealand, we advise that you do not drive from Auckland.

You can drive from Christchurch, taking approximately five hours, however, if your time in New Zealand is short, we advise you fly this distance instead.

It will take you approximately four hours to drive from Queenstown, taking you on a picturesque journey through some of New Zealand's most celebrated landscapes. Some parts of the drive could be challenging for a driver unfamilar with New Zealand roads, so we would recommend taking a bus/coach rather than driving yourself.

Remember that you must drive on the left-hand side of the road in New Zealand.

The Automobile Assocation (AA) website provides a wealth of information about travelling by road in New Zealand.

Visit our Transportation section for further travel information.

What is the weather like in Dunedin?

Dunedin has a temperate climate, with a typically changeable Spring season in November when you will be visiting. The average maximum for November is 16.8 degrees celsius and the average minimum 8.1 degrees celsius.

The best strategy to combat variations in weather is dressing in layers and always keeping a water/windproof jacket handy!
