Business & Community
Close engagement with the business world is crucial for the School of Business to ensure its research and teaching is relevant to the modern business environment. The School offers many opportunities for businesses to become involved in School activities.
Explore the links to the left for the various ways in which business practitioners can become involved with the School, including being the topic of a staff or student research project, hiring a graduate or intern, or accessing business or accounting advice.
Additionally there are a number of informal ways in which businesses and organisations can connect with the School of Business - whether contributing a scholarship or prize, running a competition for our students, mentoring a promising student, judging a business case competition or being the topic of a business case study. Email us with your ideas at business@otago.ac.nz.
Why become part of our community?
International Reputation
The School of Business is one of only three business schools in New Zealand that have achieved accreditation with both European and North American accreditation bodies.
Advisory Board
Members of the School’s external Board of Advisors are senior executives from a range of international and New Zealand companies. They provide advice, input and a valuable touchstone with the current realities and future trends of the business world.
Staff Research
The School is home to world-class researchers, committed to practical, relevant research for the benefit of everyday businesses. Coming from a diverse range of nationalities and backgrounds, many have extensive experience as business practitioners - they have been in your shoes and speak your language.
Student Research Projects
Many of our postgraduate and senior undergraduate students work with a business client and conduct research into real-life business problems. The School’s commitment to research-led teaching and close engagement with the business world ensure that all students involved in these research projects are well prepared with previous exposure to both business theory and real-world business cases.
Innovation
Our proud history of academic excellence is complemented by an environment of entrepreneurship and innovation. The Centre for Entrepreneurship, the entrepreneurial student support programme Audacious, the cross-disciplinary Applied Science degree, and the science, health and business initiative Partnering for Innovation are some of the many examples of the culture of innovation at the School of Business.
Contribute to the School of Business
