Bachelor of Commerce (BCom)

The University of Otago Bachelor of Commerce provides graduates with the knowledge, skills and flexibility to compete in the international business sector.  

The BCom is the primary undergraduate degree of the School of Business. The three-year (full-time) programme ensures you develop a broad understanding of the fundamentals of business, as well as giving you the opportunity to specialise in a discipline of your choice.

The Otago BCom

BCom Major
Your Major is the subject area in which you choose to specialise, providing a comprehensive understanding of a chosen area of business.

Elective papers
As well as the BCom required papers, and the papers required for your major, depending on your degree/major, Otago allows students to select a number of Commerce, Humanities or Science papers of your choice.

BCom Required Papers
BCom students are required to complete a set of seven 'core' required papers, ensuring that every BCom graduate has a broad understanding of the business environment.

BCom Regulations
To complete a BCom you must complete a minimum of 360 points (including the required core papers) of which 180 points must be above 100-level. Up to 90 points may be taken from outside Commerce (e.g. Humanities or Sciences).
