The Department of Economics at the University of Otago is one of the premier teaching and research departments in New Zealand. An external review of the Department in 2006 concluded that "the Department is a leading research department in New Zealand" and "is to be commended for the overall positive perception of its teaching and treatment of students". The Department has 19 academic staff and offers a comprehensive range of approximately 35 papers at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
