Michael FaySenior Lecturer

BA (Hull), MA (Lancaster)

After graduating with a degree in Psychology and Sociology, Michael worked in marketing and advertising in the UK for ten years. Subsequently he set out to turn himself into an academic and moved to New Zealand to take up a lecturing position. At Otago he has had wide teaching and administrative experience including three years as Dean of Commerce. Nowadays his teaching is largely concerned with advertising and his research with trying to unravel the cultural role of advertising in society. Michael was the curator of the Otago Advertising Archive which contained over a million magazine advertisements from the 1940s to the present.

Away from work, Michael divides his time between fishing, writing childrens' stories, rugby watching, and beer ... and monumental landscape gardening. He is also a member of the 'Never had a Big Mac Society'. He is truly a renaissance man.
