Master of Commerce in Tourism (MCom in Tourism)
The aim of the programme is to provide students with the opportunity to undertake multi- or inter-disciplinary supervised (normally by one supervisor) innovative research in tourism and related fields of inquiry. As such the MCom (Tourism) offers students the opportunity to examine aspects of the phenomenon of tourism from social, cultural, commercial, environmental and/or scientific perspectives. The programme involves one year of fulltime study (or equivalent) towards the completion of a research thesis (note: there is no taught papers component to this programme). The programme is designed to develop student’s research skills; incorporating their ability to engage with and critically examine theoretical and conceptual literature, methodologies, and data collection and analysis methods. The programme also aims to develop students’ presentation skills. Students who successfully complete this programme should be in a position to go on to further study at the PhD level or embark on a non-academic career where the ability to undertake and/or interpret high quality research is a core component of their work.
